We're looking for a seasoned Solution Architect with HCL Commerce expertise to drive the design and evolution of a multi-tier B2B commerce platform, steering architecture decisions across legacy Commerce systems, Spring Boot services, and modern Next.js storefronts.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain target and transitional architecture for multi-tier B2B commerce, covering WCS store, business logic, Commerce tools, Spring Boot APIs, and Next.js / React storefront
  • Direct the design of dual-run / strangler patterns, deciding which journeys stay on WCS and which move to Next.js and services, while ensuring routing, session, catalog, cart, and order consistency, and establishing cut-over and rollback procedures
  • Create and review solution designs, sequence/integration diagrams, and interface contracts (REST/SOAP), flagging reusability, performance, security, and operability issues before build
  • Collaborate with product, delivery leads, QA, DevOps, and enterprise/integration teams on requirements, data conversion, integration testing, and cut-over activities
  • Set coding and design standards for Commerce customization, Spring Boot services, and Next.js storefront to keep squads aligned
  • Oversee integration with back-end systems (ERP, payments, search, CMS, punchout / customer purchasing systems), keeping a clear separation between Preview (authoring) and Runtime (customer-facing) Commerce environments
  • Assess designs and pull requests across Commerce, services, and storefront layers, tracking down complex cross-layer defects to their root cause
  • Provide guidance on capacity planning, caching strategies, search, and failure modes for a high-traffic B2B storefront
  • Coach senior engineers and leads, and document architecture decisions with context, options, and consequences to preserve continuity
  • Spot key barriers and use structured problem-solving methods for complex, multi-system challenges
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 12-20 years in professional software engineering, including at least 5 years as an architect or in an equivalent principal/staff design capacity on large-scale commerce or comparably complex multi-tier systems
  • At least 8 years working with HCL Commerce and/or IBM WebSphere Commerce (WCS) 8.x, spanning store customization, commands/tasks, tools, catalog/order/user/organization flows, and back-end integration
  • At least 8 years of experience in Java / J2EE and object-oriented design on large IT systems, with a strong preference for WebSphere Application Server background
  • At least 5 years working with Spring / Spring MVC, with hands-on experience architecting Spring Boot solutions, including service boundaries, APIs, resilience, and authentication
  • At least 5 years working with REST and SOAP web services, with the capability to define contracts for other teams to build against
  • Hands-on production architecture experience with Next.js and React, covering routing, data fetching, BFF/API integration, and storefront performance, with TypeScript knowledge preferred
  • At least 5 years using source control systems, with required Git proficiency
  • Preferred background in designing B2B commerce architecture, including punchout functionality, organizational/user models, and contract/pricing complexity
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery methods using Atlassian tooling (Jira, Bitbucket/Git, Confluence)
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities suited to both technical and non-technical audiences
Nice to have
  • Familiarity with headless/composable commerce concepts (API-first storefronts, BFF, packaged capabilities) and MuleSoft or comparable iPaaS platforms
  • Exposure to search technologies (Solr or similar), caching solutions (Redis or similar), and CMS-driven storefronts (Optimizely or similar) working alongside a commerce engine
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GKE/Kubernetes or similar) for storefront and Spring Boot deployment, plus WAS/IHS knowledge for Commerce
  • Working knowledge of security practices, PCI-adjacent payment flows, and session/identity management spanning legacy and modern storefronts
  • Prior involvement in dual-run setups or large-scale commerce migration initiatives
