We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect specializing in HCL Commerce to lead the design and evolution of a multi-tier B2B commerce platform, guiding architecture decisions across legacy Commerce systems, Spring Boot services, and modern Next.js storefronts.

Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain target and transitional architecture for multi-tier B2B commerce, encompassing WCS store, business logic, Commerce tools, Spring Boot APIs, and Next.js / React storefront
  • Lead the design of dual-run / strangler patterns, determining which journeys remain on WCS and which migrate to Next.js and services, while ensuring routing, session, catalog, cart, and order consistency, and defining cut-over and rollback procedures
  • Produce and review solution designs, sequence/integration diagrams, and interface contracts (REST/SOAP), identifying reusability, performance, security, and operability issues before build
  • Partner with product, delivery leads, QA, DevOps, and enterprise/integration teams on requirements, data conversion, integration testing, and cut-over activities
  • Establish coding and design standards for Commerce customization, Spring Boot services, and Next.js storefront to ensure consistency across squads
  • Guide integration with back-end systems (ERP, payments, search, CMS, punchout / customer purchasing systems), maintaining clear distinction between Preview (authoring) and Runtime (customer-facing) Commerce environments
  • Review designs and pull requests for Commerce, services, and storefront layers, resolving complex cross-layer defects at their root cause
  • Advise on capacity planning, caching strategies, search, and failure modes for a high-traffic B2B storefront
  • Mentor senior engineers and leads, documenting architecture decisions with context, options, and consequences to ensure continuity
  • Identify key barriers and apply structured problem-solving approaches to complex, multi-system challenges
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • 12-20 years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years in an architect or equivalent principal/staff design role on large commerce or similarly complex multi-tier systems
  • 8+ years of expertise in HCL Commerce and/or IBM WebSphere Commerce (WCS) 8.x, covering store customization, commands/tasks, tools, catalog/order/user/organization flows, and back-end integration
  • 8+ years of expertise in Java / J2EE and OOD on large IT systems, with WebSphere Application Server strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in Spring / Spring MVC with hands-on Spring Boot architecture, including service boundaries, APIs, resilience, and authentication
  • 5+ years of experience in web services (REST and SOAP), with the ability to specify contracts for other teams to implement
  • Production architecture experience with Next.js and React, including routing, data fetching, BFF/API integration, and storefront performance; TypeScript preferred
  • 5+ years of experience with source control, Git required
  • Background in architecting B2B commerce, including punchout, org/user models, and contract/pricing complexity preferred
  • Experience with Agile delivery using Atlassian tools (Jira, Bitbucket/Git, Confluence)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with engineers and non-engineers
Nice to have
  • Knowledge of headless/composable commerce (API-first storefront, BFF, packaged capabilities) and MuleSoft or similar iPaaS
  • Familiarity with search (Solr or equivalent), cache (Redis or equivalent), and CMS-driven storefront (Optimizely or equivalent) alongside a commerce engine
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GKE/Kubernetes or equivalent) for storefront and Spring Boot, and WAS/IHS for Commerce
  • Understanding of security, PCI-adjacent payment flows, and session/identity management across legacy and modern storefronts
  • Background in dual-run or large-scale commerce migration projects
