Senior Data Governance Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Data Governance Engineer to drive and enhance data governance initiatives, focusing on securing and optimizing data within Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 platforms.

The ideal candidate will apply technical expertise to implement governance processes, ensure compliance, and support secure collaboration across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Administer Microsoft Purview to establish data classification, labeling, and retention policies
  • Implement data loss prevention policies and respond to compliance alerts
  • Support audits and reporting by monitoring sensitive data activity
  • Manage data protection and compliance features across Microsoft 365 applications
  • Deploy sensitivity labels and policies to safeguard organizational data
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to enforce governance frameworks
  • Maintain metadata management, data cataloging, and data lineage mechanisms
  • Investigate data leakage instances and lead mitigation efforts in collaboration with security teams
  • Optimize sharing configurations, guest access, and conditional access policies in collaboration tools
  • Facilitate regulatory adherence to standards such as GDPR, SOX, and DORA
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in data governance, compliance, or security engineering roles
  • Hands-on expertise in Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 Compliance Center tools
  • Familiarity with Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Outlook collaboration environments
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements like GDPR, SOX, or DORA
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals or CIPT
  • Background integrating Microsoft Purview with Sentinel, Defender for Cloud Apps, or SIEM platforms
  • Knowledge of scripting capabilities (e.g., PowerShell, Graph API) is advantageous
