We are looking for a Senior C++ Developer to join our team.
This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys tackling intricate security challenges within large-scale, open-source infrastructure projects. You will work at the intersection of systems programming and security engineering, contributing directly to widely-used networking technology.
Responsibilities
- Remediate security vulnerabilities in the open-source Envoy Proxy codebase (C++) sourced from a Google-triaged Buganizer backlog
- Submit patches to Envoy's private security repository (envoy-setec) for review by Envoy maintainers
- Back-port approved fixes to supported Envoy release branches
- Integrate approved fixes into Google3 following the designated patching process, including Google FTE review, without the use of AI tooling on Google3
- Guard all behavior-affecting fixes behind Envoy runtime flags to minimize risk
- Escalate complex or ambiguous cases to Google technical leads for guidance
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
- Strong production-level C++ development skills
- Experience with network programming in C++, including sockets, TCP/UDP, TLS termination, and HTTP protocol handling such as parsing, framing, and connection lifecycle management
- Experience building asynchronous, event-driven server architectures, including epoll/libevent-style event loops and non-blocking I/O
- Proven ability to analyze and fix security vulnerabilities
- Experience using LLM/AI-agent-assisted tools to generate vulnerability fixes
- Experience with GitHub, including pull requests, upstream open-source contributions, and code review
- Strong written and spoken proficiency in English at a B2 level or higher
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Envoy internals or proxy/networking code, including HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2, HTTP/3, and TLS
- Experience working within large monorepo codebases
