Find me a jobEPAM is seeking a Middle Java Backend Engineer to join a high-performing team building and modernizing a front-office trading platform for a major global investment banking client. The platform operates within the equity derivatives trading domain, supporting trading desks and sales teams worldwide.
The application serves as an end-to-end RFQ, negotiation, trade-capture, and booking platform for OTC and listed options instruments — providing trading-venue connectivity and integration with downstream lifecycle and risk systems.
A key dimension of this role is platform modernization: adopting modern frameworks and runtimes, migrating towards web technology, optimizing performance, improving observability, and defining new services with frequent deployment cycles and quick rollbacks — all while continuously delivering business value.
This role requires an openness to working from the office 3 times a week (Wroclaw).
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Java backend services within the platform
- Implement and support electronic-trading connectivity, business logic, and data persistence
- Build and maintain server-side endpoints/APIs that power the trading blotter and view clients
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code with appropriate unit and integration test coverage
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and continuous improvement of the codebase
- Contribute to platform modernisation — adopting modern frameworks, optimising performance, improving observability, and enabling frequent deployment cycles with quick rollbacks
- Diagnose and resolve production issues, contributing to stability, performance, and observability
- Collaborate within an Agile team alongside backend, UI (.NET), and support engineers, and work closely with business users and other teams
- 3–5 years of commercial Java backend development experience
- Proficiency with AI-augmented development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar) to accelerate delivery
- Strong grasp of core Java: OOP, collections, generics, concurrency/multithreading, and the JVM
- Solid object-oriented design and understanding of common design patterns
- Experience building server-side services / REST APIs / endpoints
- SQL and data persistence experience (relational databases and/or ORM frameworks)
- Experience with Maven (or comparable build tool) and Git for version control
- Strong automated testing discipline (e.g., JUnit, Mockito)
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitLab, TeamCity, Jenkins, or similar)
- Good written and spoken English for collaboration in an international team
- JavaScript / TypeScript exposure (for cross-team collaboration on web/UI components)
- .NET / C# familiarity (the client UI is built on .NET)
- Experience with JMX, application monitoring, and operational/production support
- Performance tuning and profiling of JVM-based applications
- Background in financial services, electronic trading, trade capture, or low-latency systems
- Exposure to Log4j2, Nexus/Artifactory, and containerised or multi-environment deployments
- Spring or an equivalent application framework
