We are looking for a Lead UX Designer to support a AAA fighting game project built in Unreal Engine 5.
This role will shape, prototype, document, and refine user experiences across frontend, engagement systems, and in-match gameplay UI. The project is transitioning from pre-production into production. The UI direction is still taking form, and the team may draw on existing design systems where beneficial while also crafting project-specific patterns. The ideal candidate should feel at ease working closely with UI Art, UI Technical Design, Engineering, Gameplay Design, VFX, Sound, and Production.
Responsibilities
- Craft user flows, wireframes, interaction models, prototypes, and UX documentation for a AAA fighting game
- Provide UX solutions covering frontend, engagement systems, and in-match gameplay UI
- Team up with UI Artists and UI Technical Designers early in the design process to ensure UX concepts are both visually striking and technically feasible
- Convert product, gameplay, and player needs into structured UX frameworks and interaction patterns
- Build and maintain UX flows using tools such as Figma, HTML prototypes, and in-engine mockups where suitable
- Formalize designs into prototypes, design documentation, and specifications ready for implementation
- Champion mobile-centric UX while keeping the experience enjoyable across every supported platform in the game ecosystem
- Establish UX behavior for navigation, input, responsiveness, accessibility considerations, onboarding, engagement loops, gameplay HUD elements, and live-service touchpoints
- Coordinate with UI Engineering and UI Technical Design to handle implementation questions and settle edge cases
- Engage with VFX and sound stakeholders to make sure interaction feedback, UI motion, and celebratory moments reinforce the intended player experience
- Inspect in-engine implementation and offer feedback to safeguard the original UX intent
- Contribute to publishing activities, seasonal updates, post-release iteration, and live-service enhancements
Requirements
- No less than 5 years of hands-on professional experience in UX design
- Minimum of 1 year in a people management or team leadership role, guiding a team of 5 or more FTEs
- Strong track record designing UX for games or intricate interactive products
- Practical experience developing player flows, wireframes, prototypes, and design documentation
- Firm grasp of game UI patterns, player motivation, engagement systems, navigation, onboarding, and feedback loops
- Background designing for multi-platform products, with a strong emphasis on mobile-first experiences
- Confident use of Figma for producing UX artifacts and collaborating on design activities
- Ability to work productively with UI Art, UI Technical Design, Engineering, Gameplay Design, Production, Sound, and VFX disciplines
- Skill in conveying design intent clearly through prototypes, documentation, reviews, and direct collaboration
- Comfort operating on projects where visual direction and design systems are still coming together
- Solid systems thinking with the capability to build UX that scales across a range of game features and updates
- Ability to balance expressive, animated UI with usability, clarity, and responsiveness
- Confident English communication at B2 level or above, in both written and spoken forms
Nice to have
- Prior contribution to AAA, live-service, fighting, action, multiplayer, or competitive games
- Experience designing UI for mobile-first game titles
- Hands-on work with Unreal Engine, UMG, or in-engine prototyping workflows
- Familiarity with using HTML prototypes as part of the UX design process
- Experience tailoring existing design systems to fit new products
- Background supporting seasonal content, publishing workflows, and post-launch UX refinement
- Awareness of approved AI-assisted tools for ideation, prototyping, documentation, or workflow acceleration
