Lead Scientific Computing Engineer (Cloud Specialist)

We are looking for a highly skilled Lead Scientific Computing Engineer with a background in High-Performance Computing and cloud computing to support our scientific research initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing and optimizing Linux-based High-Performance Computing environments, along with expertise in Amazon Web Services cloud services. This position requires collaboration with various R&D teams to provide technical support and implement improvements in our computing infrastructure. The candidate must have competency in handling both open-source and commercial software across diverse R&D disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Support in-silico activities such as installing, configuring, and optimizing Linux workstations and applications
  • Deliver continuous improvements and maintenance for existing Linux environments
  • Oversee and optimize Amazon Web Services cloud resources, including key services like Amazon FSx for Lustre, EC2, S3
  • Work closely with research teams to address computational needs and provide customized solutions
  • Enhance the security, scalability, and efficiency of cloud-based scientific workflows
  • Resolve technical issues in both on-premises and cloud environments
  • Compile, install, and maintain open-source and commercial software applications
  • Stay informed on advancements in High-Performance Computing and cloud technologies to drive improvements
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of expertise in managing and optimizing Linux-based High-Performance Computing environments
  • 1+ years of leadership experience in relevant roles
  • Proficiency in Amazon Web Services cloud services such as Amazon FSx for Lustre, EC2, S3
  • Understanding of cloud architecture, including networking, storage solutions, and security best practices
  • Familiarity with scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl for automation and system administration
  • Skills in containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools including Kubernetes
  • Capability to compile, install, and maintain open-source and commercial applications
  • Strong problem-solving and the flexibility to work independently and in team settings
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with researchers and technical teams
Nice to have
  • Expertise in other cloud platforms like Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure
  • Background in bioinformatics or scientific computing workflows
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Qualifications in Amazon Web Services or other cloud-based certifications
  • Understanding of software tools across R&D fields like Drug Design and Molecular Modeling, Genomics and Data Analysis, Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Simulations, and Structural Biology and Imaging
