Lead Python Developer

We are in search of an experienced Lead Python Developer. We are a dynamic team focused on advancing the clean energy economy by developing the analytics engine that powers US renewable energy.

As a Lead Python Developer, you will collaborate with researchers, data scientists, and other engineers to innovate, build, and optimize our proprietary algorithms for renewable energy generation. Your work will help to power our APIs and platforms that deliver critical data to both our internal and external stakeholders efficiently and intuitively.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate across scrum teams to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust data-intensive applications
  • Ensure code quality by writing efficient and well-tested code for serving renewable energy data via web APIs
  • Lead discussions and evangelize best practices in software engineering, comparing approaches like microservices versus monoliths
  • Partner with DevOps to enhance integration of serverless cloud architecture components and optimize build/deploy processes
  • Continuously learn new technologies, engage in technology communities, and mentor team members to foster an innovative and learning environment
Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience in software development with proven experience in building data-intensive applications
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, with a preference for Python
  • Strong background in API design including versioning, isolation, and microservice architectures
  • Competency in using cloud compute technologies like AWS or Azure
  • Familiarity with Docker and environment management tools like pipenv or pnpm
  • Understanding of GIT and agile development methodologies
  • Basic proficiency with SQL
  • Ability to define technical roadmaps, present high-level designs, and lead execution
  • Strong desire to mentor junior engineers
Nice to have
  • Skills in managing relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Snowflake
  • Experience with large scale data processing tools like Airflow
  • Competency in diagnosing and enhancing application scalability and reliability
  • Qualifications in managing cloud infrastructure using tools like Terraform
  • Background in building and managing CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with or interest in wholesale electricity markets
