We are looking for a Backend Developer to join our team. You will craft tidy, logically organized code, catch and resolve technical debt, and implement fundamental best practices like refactoring and modularity while staying grounded in solid programming fundamentals. Hybrid work model based in Quito. Availability to attend the office a minimum of three (3) days per week is required.
Responsibilities
- Create and support backend services that drive core business operations and application capabilities
- Participate across all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, deployment, and continued maintenance
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define technical approaches that support broader business goals
- Identify and resolve production issues quickly and effectively
- Contribute to discussions on system architecture and weigh in on important technical choices
- Develop solutions with a focus on scalability, reliability, and sustained maintainability over time
- Participate in peer code reviews to help maintain quality and consistency across the codebase
- Prepare documentation of technical designs, workflows, and solutions to support knowledge transfer within the team
- Continuously identify opportunities to refine existing systems, processes, and ways of working
- Stay informed on evolving technologies and industry practices to bring new ideas and improvements to the team
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in Java development
- Ability to identify and implement appropriate design patterns, explaining rationale and promoting sound development practices
- Ability to architect secure and resilient API integrations, managing versioning and applying suitable messaging patterns
- Ability to justify and implement cloud-based components, designing scalable and efficient distributed systems
- Ability to establish and execute effective version control approaches, resolving complex conflicts and enabling smooth collaboration
- Ability to architect container-based solutions, optimize images, and manage orchestration and security considerations
- Ability to construct and sustain reliable automated CI/CD pipelines, ensuring quality, traceability, and consistent, dependable deployments
- Ability to design efficient relational database schemas, optimize queries, and maintain referential integrity
- Ability to design NoSQL solutions suited to particular use cases, managing trade-offs between performance and consistency
- Working knowledge of unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to verify functionality and reduce coding errors
- Basic familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including monitoring systems, recognizing alerts, and responding to incidents according to established procedures
- Strong communication skills in technical settings, with the ability to contribute actively in meetings and reviews and explain work to other roles, adjusting communication style based on the audience
- Effective teamwork skills, including proactive collaboration, timely communication of progress and obstacles, adaptability to varying work styles, and support for a constructive team atmosphere
- Excellent English communication skills (B2 level or higher)
Nice to have
- Ability to design comprehensive technical solutions aligned with business objectives, taking into account scalability, resilience, security, and quality attributes
- Experience developing secure solutions by applying security best practices, protecting sensitive information, and ensuring compliance with regulations such as PCI-DSS and GDPR
- Familiarity with Angular for developing front-end components that interface with backend systems
- Knowledge of GitOps approaches for managing infrastructure and deployments through version-controlled workflows
- Experience implementing OAuth to enable secure authentication and authorization processes
- Familiarity with Terraform for provisioning and managing infrastructure as code
