We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with extensive experience in Golang to join our team and contribute to the foundational services powering BigCommerce's API platform. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize services supporting BigCommerce APIs, with a focus on scalability, performance, and maintainability
- Create internal tools to enhance the efficiency of teams working with APIs
- Troubleshoot and resolve production challenges while contributing to improving service stability and performance
- Document workflows, architectural decisions, and best practices related to the API infrastructure
- Collaborate with globally distributed teams across EU and US time zones
- Champion best practices for code quality, testing, and maintainability
- Explore and integrate new tools, frameworks, or techniques to advance project outcomes
- Enhance API architecture with a focus on modernization and extensibility
- Work with technical stakeholders to align goals and influence product deliverables
- Mentor junior engineers, supporting their growth while achieving key project objectives
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a specialization in Golang
- Proven ability to design and implement scalable, efficient, and maintainable system architectures
- Strong understanding of HTTP, RESTful API design, and API standards
- In-depth knowledge of SQL database schema design, query optimization, and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, as well as NoSQL alternatives
- Proficiency with Git version control, including advanced workflows like rebasing and resolving merge conflicts
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code with comprehensive test coverage (unit and integration)
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues in scalable systems
- Proven ability to work effectively with distributed teams and manage end-to-end project execution independently
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in incident resolution and ensuring service reliability
- Experience shaping technical roadmaps and guiding stakeholders in making informed technology decisions
- Commitment to continuous learning and adopting emerging technologies and best practices
- Fluent English communication skills (B2 or higher), with the ability to explain technical concepts to a variety of audiences
Nice to have
- Experience with tools and frameworks such as gRPC, GraphQL, MCP; RabbitMQ; Redis; Docker, CircleCI
- Familiarity with observability tools like Kibana, Prometheus, Grafana, or Lightstep
- Understanding of Agile workflows and issue tracking systems such as Jira
- Experience leveraging cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS) for deploying and scaling services
- Exposure to additional programming languages like JavaScript (Node.js), Scala, PHP, or Ruby, showcasing adaptability across diverse tech stacks
