Our client is a dynamic and rapidly evolving engineering group within a leading U.S.-based retailer. Their mission is to optimize, secure, and deliver cutting-edge mobile experiences. In this role, you'll contribute to one of the organization’s most impactful initiatives by developing solutions for a next-generation Point of Sale (POS) system. This involves creating a suite of Kotlin libraries that compile down to JavaScript and collaborating closely with various teams across the organization to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
As a Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in architecting, designing, and developing software that is high-performing, resilient, scalable, extensible, secure, and reliable. You will work collaboratively to identify, design, develop, and deploy innovative technology and process solutions that enable critical business capabilities. Responsibilities include developing microservices, creating robust solution designs, driving process improvement, and supporting production environments.
- Design and implement reusable Kotlin libraries as core components for cross-platform integration and optimized functionality
- Deliver high-performing, secure, and scalable software using Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Architect and deploy innovative technology and process solutions to enhance business capabilities
- Establish collaborative relationships with business and technology teams to drive impactful outcomes
- Communicate technical ideas effectively to non-technical stakeholders and peers
- Partner with technology vendors to ensure alignment and delivery of business objectives
- Implement solutions aligned with Information Security standards for sensitive data
- Provide operational support with automated solutions to ensure system reliability and availability
- Deploy service monitoring and telemetry systems to guarantee performance and availability metrics
- Ensure compliance with company policies and legal/regulatory standards
- Configure and maintain system baselines following secure development and industry best practices
- 3+ years of software development experience in Java, Kotlin, REST API, and backend services
- Experience working with large-scale distributed systems and multi-tier architectures
- Background in developing and operating services in one or more major cloud providers, such as AWS
- Knowledge of databases like Cassandra, DynamoDB, or PostgreSQL
- Background in message-driven architecture and related technologies
- Proven ability to debug and optimize code while automating repetitive tasks
- Showcase of implementing and managing mission-critical, high-capacity environments
- Proficiency in running and maintaining 24x7 production systems
- Competency in CI/CD practices, infrastructure management, and monitoring/alerting setup
- Experience with uplifting on-prem legacy systems to the cloud preferred
- Understanding of troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems in dynamic settings
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken, at a minimum B2 level
- Familiarity with Scala
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
