Senior Accessibility Specialist

We are currently looking to hire a remote Senior Accessibility Specialist to join our international team at EPAM. This role focuses on upgrading an interactive legacy system for searching and accessing various materials, including articles, books, and media content. The client aims to update the system to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. This position offers a significant chance to influence and establish the accessibility standards of a widely used platform.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and guide the testing team through audits and analyses to develop accessibility specifications
  • Estimate the required resources for Accessibility Testing, Auditing, and Analytics for various projects
  • Resolve issues identified by the testing team with effective solutions
  • Work in conjunction with the Development Team to ensure ADA compliance in specifications and design prototypes
  • Provide prompt feedback and recommendations to ensure ongoing and situational compliance
  • Communicate accessibility-related matters effectively to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Manage the organization and prioritization of review results to facilitate efficient issue resolution
  • Ensure compliance with Section 508 standards
  • Document and verify that design and functional requirements meet WCAG compliance
  • Mentor and aid in the professional development of junior accessibility specialists
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Accessibility Testing and Consulting
  • Deep understanding of HTML/CSS, with a focus on accessibility and WAI-ARIA
  • Skilled in understanding and implementing WCAG (2.0, 2.1+) best practices and techniques, and able to make significant recommendations
  • Familiar with CI/CD processes and the integration of accessibility features within product development
  • Experienced in conducting functional tests of web applications on desktop (Windows/macOS) and mobile devices (Android/iOS)
  • Proficient with developer tools like Chrome Dev Tools
  • Knowledgeable about assistive technologies such as screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack, VoiceOver)
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and presentation abilities
  • Fluent in English, with a proficiency level of at least B2+
Nice to have
  • Certifications in WAS, CPACC, or Section 508, or completion of recognized accessibility courses
  • Proficiency in JavaScript
  • Experience managing scrum environments in large-scale projects with multiple distributed teams
